Aug 13, 2025 | Rhode Island Airport Corporation Press Release

RHODE ISLAND T. F. GREEN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT NAMED #1 AIRPORT IN THE U.S. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ITS HISTORY

This Follows Its Recognition as the Fastest Growing Airport in the U.S.

Warwick, RI – July 8, 2025 – Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD) is the Top Domestic Airport in Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2025 readers’ survey, as voted by the publication’s passionate well-traveled readers. This honor will appear in the August 2025 issue of Travel + Leisure and is also featured online at Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards. According to the FAA there are 560 airports that conduct commercial passenger operations, making this a notable distinction on the tails of being the fastest growing airport in the U.S.

This prestigious recognition comes as part of Travel + Leisure’s 30th anniversary celebration of the World’s best Awards, which highlight standout destinations, properties, and travel experiences worldwide.

“This recognition is an incredible honor for our airport and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team,” said Iftikhar Ahmad, president CEO of Rhode Island Airport Corporation. “To be named the No. 1 Domestic Airport by some of the most seasoned travelers in the world is both humbling and inspiring. We’re proud to be Rhode Island’s gateway to the world and the fastest growing airport in the country.”

“Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards are a trusted barometer for excellence across the travel industry,” said Jacqueline Gifford, Editor-in-Chief of Travel + Leisure. “To be selected as No. 1 winner means your guests feel truly taken care of, and that you stand out among the best of the best.”

“Rhode Island’s T. F. Green International Airport earned the top spot because it treats every traveler to a first-class experience,” said U.S. Senator Jack Reed.  “It’s everything an airport should be and more: modern, accessible, and welcoming, with outstanding amenities.  But the real credit goes to the friendly, talented people who work there and really go above and beyond for travelers. They deserve this recognition and all the impressive accolades they get.”

“This is an incredible honor for Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport, its staff, the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, and our state,” said Governor Dan McKee. “The airport’s commitment to reliable, smooth, and convenient travel has paid off for countless passengers each year, getting them where they need to go when they need to be there. I look forward to the new heights PVD is soaring towards, and what it brings to our economy, tourism, and business landscape.”

Each year, Travel + Leisure asks readers to rate airports across several categories including access, check-in/security, restaurants/bars, shopping, and design. The 2025 results are based on the experiences of hundreds of thousands of readers who participated in the survey.

“As someone who uses Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport for as much of my travel as possible, I can attest to its exceptional customer service and accessibility,” said House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi. “Achieving the top spot of the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2025 readers’ survey, one of the most prestigious recognitions in the travel industry, is an incredible accomplishment. Congratulations to the entire team at PVD, whose outstanding work has earned this well-deserved accolade.”

“Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport’s reputation for excellence continues to grow, and that is advantageous for our entire state,” said President of the Senate Valarie J. Lawson. “It speaks to the incredible work of the team at the airport, and it demonstrates the importance of our investments in Rhode Island’s travel and tourism economy. Thanks to the Rhode Island Airport Corporation and the airport’s outstanding workforce for helping our state remain a top destination for travelers around the world.”

“This type of designation doesn’t happen without the support we receive from the federal delegation, the governor and the House and Senate leadership teams. Together, we have transformed the airport into a true success story driving Rhode Island’s tourism economy,” stated RIAC Board Chairman Jon Savage.
